TRIUMF Tour - Monday, July 21

TRIUMF will sponsor a reception and laboratory tour after the scientific sessions on Monday, July 21. TRIUMF is a 20-30 minute walk from the life sciences building. We will not be providing a shuttle service for all delegates. If you have mobility issues and require transportation to and from TRIUMF please note this in the Comments field when you are registering. Pay parking is available on site.

The laboratory is located on the edge of Pacific Spirit Regional Park, 763 hectares of rainforest and shoreline, at the south end of the University of British Columbia main campus. You may like to take a leisurely stroll (20-30 mins) back to your residences through the forest after the tour.

TRIUMF, Canada's National Laboratory for Nuclear and Particle Physics, is a research institution active in all areas of subatomic pysics. including particle physics, nuclear physics, and nuclear astrophysics; life sciences, including cancer therapy and radioisotope production; and material science.
Some of the highlights of the tour include: the world's largest sector-focusing cyclotron, operational since 1974; the ISAC radioactive ion beam facility; TITAN, the Penning trap facility for nuclear mass measurements; DRAGON, the astrophysical recoil separator; GRIFFIN and TIGRESS, the HPGe spectrometer arrays for rare-isotope decay- and in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy, respectively; the TR13 medical research cyclotron; and, the ISAC II superconducting linac accelerator.
Knowledgeable and enthusiastic undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows will serve as tour guides.
